We are very happy to announce the addition of 'The National' film critic Ross Miller to our Scottish Short Film Festival Judging Panel!

A freelance film reviewer, feature writer and blogger with over 10 years experience, Ross has written for various different outlets on the subject of film, including Scotcampus, Screen Rant, The Journal, In the City: Glasgow, Row Three, What Culture, Blog Critics and many more. Ross gained his Honours Degree in Media & Communication from Glasgow Caledonian University in 2012 and is currently the film critic for The National newspaper where he reviews the weekly film releases, as well as covers the great film festivals this country has to offer.

"I am delighted to be apart of the judging team for this year's Scottish Short Film Festival," writes Ross. "I look forward to seeing what great work these filmmakers have to offer."

Welcome, Ross! Thanks for joining our team.

Entry Fees Reduced

Today, after some research into the entry fees of other film festivals around the world, we've realised that ours are a bit high, and made adjustments accordingly compared with a calculated average. Refunds will be sent out to those already entered. This mostly affects our Medium (7-15 min) and Long (15-20 min) film categories. While a few film festivals didn't actually accept films longer than ten minutes, we do acknowledge that on the whole, we were asking a bit much.

Due to planning to enter a film in this year's festival, Deputy Director of the Glasgow Filmmakers' Alliance Chris Quick, who assisted as a judge in 2012 and 2017, has asked to step down this year. We thank him for his past contributions and support, and wish him well with his film!

Committee Meeting Oct 2nd 2017

A meeting of the committee was held on 2nd October where much was discussed, including lots of interesting and exciting developments regarding the future of the festival. However, what was also agreed upon was that we shouldn't give too much away too soon. In other words I've basically been gagged due to my overenthusiasm and tendency to shoot my mouth off all over social media. In fact I'm not really allowed to say that we have stuff to say. So unfortunately this news post is not very helpful. Sorry about that. Anyway, rest assured that although there may be times when there's not much to say, we're doing our bit to make this event the best it can be, both for new and established filmmakers, writers, actors, musicians, editors and all those behind the scenes as well as in front of the camera - as well as - audience members. We want people to leave the comfort zones of their Saturday night sofa surfing and join us on a journey of make believe, self realisation and social coming together of like-minded people who enjoy nothing more than to challenge the status quo and see what happens.

Great films, great prizes, a great night.
