SSFF Seeks Judges

The SSFF is looking for judges!

What we can offer you:

A free ticket to the 2019 Scottish Short Film Festival in Glasgow in July

A first look at the most recent short Scottish films between 10 seconds and 20 minutes long.

An up to the minute rare opportunity to see what short film makers in and about Scotland are doing and how they're doing it.

What we ask:

That you have no connection with any films entered this coming year.

That you watch and impartially score all the films submitted on the Film Freeway judging panel against ten criteria: Directing, Lead Actress, Lead Actor, Script, Music/Sound, Editing, Creative/Original, Cinematography, Costume/Make up, Documentary.

That you write a few comments to send back to the filmmakers about their film – the strong points, and some areas where they can be improved upon to assist them on their journey through film making.

That you select a1st and 2nd choice winner for each of the above categories (based on your scores) plus the following prizes:

Judges' 1st Prize

Judge's 2nd Prize

Acting Coach Scotland Rising Star Award

That you attend a judges' meeting sometime in May 2019 to discuss choices in Glasgow. (Refreshments and travel provided.)

As a guide, in 2018 we received 61 entries and over ten hours worth of fantastic entries.

The late deadline is April 30th 2019.

Notification date is May 31st 2019.

You can view and rate the films on the easy to use FIlmFreeway judging panel all in one go in May, or spread them out over several months as they come in (recommended). Completely up to you. We already have some ready to view.

Warning: If it turns out that you do in fact have a relation to a film entered this coming year we may unfortunately have to remove your input from the judging or disqualify the film you are related to. Or both!

If interested please send an email to chris@scottishshortfilmfestival.com with a short paragraph about yourself, where you're based, and why you'd be a good judge.

In line with our Diversity Policy we are specifically looking for a wide variety of genders, ages, religion, orientation and ethnicity. We acknowledge the importance of a film festival representing its diverse filmmakers, ensuring it can reach its full potential, and will do our best to do so.

"Past Winners" Page added

To keep a note of all the past winners of previous film festivals, we've added this page and will continue updating and improving it as time goes on.

Information about previous prize winners at the Raptors can also be found on Wikipedia and IMDb, thanks to the unrivalled administrative prowess of Glasgow film maker and editor Chris Quick.

If filmmakers would like their Wikipedia or IMDb accounts linked with their Raptor and future SSFF wins please let us know and we'll do our best to connect them up.

Think of it as a kind of Scottish film-making virtual Hall of Fame.
